This is a minor passion project of mine. With Paul's Boutique being my #1 desert island disc and still in my regular rotation all these years later, I wanted to do one last digestion of the album. This serves as an epitaph and an encomium in the tradition of Dan Leroy's 33⅓ book, "Caught In The Middle Of A 3-Way Mix" by DJ Moneyshot, DJ Cheeba & DJ Food, and KEXP Steps Into Paul's Boutique.
A significant part of the intrigue around this album is the dense gatefold lyric sheet, rife with inside references, the Beastie Boys' idiosyncratic slang, and countless "Easter eggs." This treatment focuses on that, aiming to take the ink off the paper and bring it to life.
In the form of the Annotated version, it serves as a living document that can be grown and updated. Please feel free to email me with any additions, corrections, or broken links.
Enjoy!
